Please do not mistake this for a recommendation because I haven’t tried the following roofing product. However, it does appear at first glance to be an interesting solution to some situations. It looks a little bit plastic to me, but I might get used to it if it’s longevity added value to my home and peace of mind. I bet it’s tested for hurricanes and the snow slides off well. The point here is that you can have metal and have shingles at the same time.

Most of us in the USA grew up thinking that asphalt shingles were for homes, and metal roofing was for commercial buildings. Not any more. In fact, first chance I get, I’m replacing my asphalt shingles with metal roofing. It lasts much longer, they offer more color selection, the snow slides right off, and I have begun to think that it looks nicer for a longer time too. There are some issues when applying solar panel to a metal roof, but it is possible.

Cedar and Fir are traditional materials for porch deck boards. These days, a lot of home are using pressure treated spruce almost an inch thick and 5-1/4″ wide. They are very tough and durable, but rather rustic. It’s nice when you can spend a little more for composite decking.
